Scientific Name : Varanus varius
Common Name : Lace monitor
Description : An enormous lizard growing to just over 2m. Colour is predominately dull grey-brown, with varying amounts of cream markings These pale markings may be scattered spots, or may form stripes across the body. The legs and toes are distinctly striped. The tail has stripes towards the base, but they change to broad irregular width bands toward the tip.
Habitat : Most types of forest.
Distribution : Eastern areas of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Not uncommon in the park, most often seen on the Stringybark Ridge.
Family : Varanidae
