Scientific Name : Notechis scutatus
Common Name : Tiger snake
Description : POISONOUS. A medium-sized snake, growing up to 1.2m. Colour is variable, olive-brown to blackish-brown, usually with a series of lighter cross-bands. Flattens out its neck when aroused, giving it a cobra-like appearance. This snake is poisonous and dangerous. A previous Park Ranger was bitten during a koala count and needed hospital treatment.
Habitat : Wide range of habitats, from rainforest to dry schlerophyll forest.
Distribution : South and East of New South Wales and most of Victoria. Probably the commonest snake in the park. In some years frequently sighted along Fosters Gully, also recorded from the Billy Creek area.
