Small owl 300 to 350 mm. Darkish brown, with white spots on wings and back. Eye yellow, beneath whitish eyebrows. Voice a two-syllable call, boo-book, often supposed to callmore-pork. Call may commonly be heard at night. This is the commonest of the Australian owls.
Almost any habitat, provided there are trees with suitable nesting holes and dense cover to hide up during the day.
Throughout Australia and beyond. Found anywhere where there are suitable nesting trees. Recorded in Fosters Gully and also on a hillside above Billy Creek.
