Scientific Name : Ninox novaeseelandiae
Common Name : Southern boobook
Description : Small owl 300 to 350 mm. Darkish brown, with white spots on wings and back. Eye yellow, beneath whitish eyebrows. Voice a two-syllable call, boo-book, often supposed to callmore-pork. Call may commonly be heard at night. This is the commonest of the Australian owls.
Habitat : Almost any habitat, provided there are trees with suitable nesting holes and dense cover to hide up during the day.
Distribution : Throughout Australia and beyond. Found anywhere where there are suitable nesting trees. Recorded in Fosters Gully and also on a hillside above Billy Creek.
