Scientific Name : Elanus notatus
Common Name : Black-shouldered kite
Description : A small bird of prey, to 350mm. The head and body are white, with a black bill and a black ring round the eye. The back, wings and tail are pale grey apart from conspicuous black shoulders. It has a distinctive method of hunting, hovering with rapid wing beats to search for prey.
Habitat : Open country, to open forest.
Distribution : All of Australia, except Tasmania. Rarely seen in the Park, where revegetation has left very little suitable habitat,
