Scientific Name : Dianella tasmanica
Common Name : Tasman flax-lily
Height : 1000 mm
Description : Plants form dense tufts, with multiple leaves, broad and dark green, up to 1000 mm. Leaves are shearhing at the base, but the Lamina is widely spread. Flower stems usually just exceed the leaves. They are multiply branched, bearing many blue flowers, which terminate each branchlet. Petals and Sepals are similar, deep blue, about 10mm long. Stamens are shorter than the Tepals, with pale yellow Anthers, above a deep yellow swelling on the Filaments. The fruit is a deep blue, Ovoid berry, up to 200mm long.
Habitat : Moist, shaded forests.
Distribution : New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Throughout Southern Victoria, common in the East of the state. Known in the Park from two sites, one alongside Billy Creek, above the weir and the other beside the Zigzag track above the West side of Billy Creek.
Flowering Season : November and December
