Scientific Name : Cuculus pyrrhophanus
Common Name : Fan-tailed cuckoo
Description : A slender long-tailed bird to 270mm. The head, back and wings are grey, while the throat and underparts are apricot coloured. The tail is dark grey, with white notches along the sides. There is a yellow ring around the eye. The bill is slightly down-curved and is dark grey. Immature birds (as in the photograph) are all brown, except for the tail notches and the eye-ring.
Habitat : Forests and woodlands.
Distribution : Queensland to Victoria and Tasmania, south-eastern Sout Australia and south western West Australia. Found throughout Victoria. Common throughout the Park in summer. In winter, most birds migrate to the North, but an occasional bird may still be seen in the area.
