Scientific Name : Chenonetta jubata
Common Name : Maned duck
Description : A medium sized duck to 500mm. It has a short steeply sloping bill, giving it a rather goose-like shape. The sexes are different. The male has a brwon head and soft grey underparts. Tail and wing-tips are black. The secondaries are white, showing as a white speculum in flight. The female's head is lighter brown, with whitish lines above and below the eye. The underparts are whitish, mottled with brown.
Habitat : Open country near water, usually with access to grassland. Nests in holes in trees, often high off the ground.
Distribution : Throughout Australia, wherever suitable habitat is found. In the Park, seen in farmland adjacent to the Western boundary and adjacent to the Billys Creek flats.
