Scientific Name : Caladenia carnea Common Name : Pink fingers Height : 200 mm Description : A pretty little orchid, with a single slender leaf up to 100mm long. The single flower stem bears up to 5, but often just one flower. The Perianth segments are 20mm long, varying from white to quite a deep pink. The lateral Petals and Sepals are spread out like the fingers of a hand. The Dorsal Sepal stands upright behind the Column. The Labellum has three lobes. The side lobes are turned upwards, while the mid lobe is small and triangular, covered with yellow Calli and usually curled under. The Lamina of the Labellum has reddish markings and has 2 to 4 rows of yellow Calli. Habitat : Heaths, woodland and open forest. Distribution : Queensland to Tasmania and South Australia. Widespread in Victoria, except fo the North-West. Common on Stringybark Ridge, near the Brewsters Road entrance, where it grows in large colonies and on the slopes above the East side of Fosters Gully. One solitary record from the Moran's Road entrance above Billy Creek. Flowering Season : September and October Family : Orchidaceae
